Audits and reviews store sales and handles several end-of-month duties for revisions and expenditure variance. Within this, the Staff Accountant performs the following duties.
Performs audits of sales and expense transaction to ensure accuracy and compliance with Company and GAAP guidelines. Verifies and posts details of business transactions, such as funds received and disbursed, and totals accounts to ledgers or computer spreadsheets and databases. Will include the following: - Party deposits received and applied - A/R created and paid - Paid-out exceptions Reviews monthly and interim operating results for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with Company policies. Assists store personnel, multi-unit operators, and corporate personnel with accounting issues and research. Assists with operations initiatives that impact the store or region financial statements. Assists in identifying and implementing process improvements at stores and in corporate office. Performs account reconciliation and analysis on selected accounts. Reviews support for various expense and payment calculations. Assists in the testing and documentation of internal control procedures and assistance in fulfilling with information requests by external auditors, regulatory agencies, and management. Computes and records charges, refunds, cost of lost or damaged goods, freight charges, rentals, and similar items. Monitors accounts payable and receivable to ensure that payments are up to date. Reconciles report discrepancies and problems. Responsible for the following end-of-period items: - Reviews end-of-period financial reports for material variances - Prepares journal entries, accruals, or journal vouchers to account/correct for errors or mistakes. - Reviews and responds to questions sent by the store management and makes appropriate entries to correct. - Prepares reconciliations for party deposits, accounts receivable parties, accruals, fixed banks, and inventories Completes other projects and performs other duties as assigned.

(No less than 15 hours of college credit in accounting). Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Must have strong basic math skills. Must have good working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This includes good working knowledge of basics of Accouting and general makeup of General Ledger Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Must have intermediate computer knowledge with a heavy emphasis on Excel.
